Heaven Scent Florist is run and owned by Louise Lancaster, who has been in floristry for about 13 years. In that time she has won numerous gold awards, for both Interflora and Harrogate Flower Shows, and was the Florist of the Year (under 23's) in this region.

Louise opened Heaven Scent in January 2006 and is now into her 3rd year. At Heaven Scent, they aim to cater for all tastes, both traditional and modern. As well as arranging flowers for birthdays, anniversaries, funerals and corporate, a big part of there business is weddings.

Louise says 'Hopefully there will be many more weddings to come this year, as lots of people propose at Valentine’s Day, but especially this year, as it is a leap year. I think these days more women are willing to get down on one knee, rather than leaving it all down to the man'. Valentines Day is one of the busiest days for Florists, and this year Heaven Scent are offering free chocolates with all orders over £35. Also it is very close to Mothers Day this year (Sunday 2nd March), which is the first time in about a decade, so they are offering free delivery on all Mothers day orders (York only), when they have been placed with there Valentines order. It is not about trying to get money about of people, but it saves people time by ordering them together, it stops people forgetting and most importantly it prevents disappointment if the order has been placed early, and an added bonus, you get free delivery!!!

Valentine’s Day is one day of the year that people are romantic all over the world. So as well as buying that special person a lovely gift, make sure that you give them something what everybody wants, its not expensive, its not hide to find in the busy shops, its just 3 words, 'I love you'.

HELPFUL HINT 1 - What type of polish should be used on antique furniture made from walnut, mahogany and oak?

Answer from Country Life December 2006

“Purists make their own from a mixture of beeswax and turpentine (artists’ turpentine, not white spirit). You should melt the beeswax in a tin in a cool oven and add a small amount of the turpentine. Let both melt and then mix together. Pour into a polish tin which is wide and shallow so you can get your duster in easily. If when set the consistency is too hard (it should be quite firm), melt it again and add a bit more turpentine.” NB Specialist polishes are available in shops but you should not use any that contain silicone as these could damage the furniture.
